Hosting a spring tea party can be elegant, romantic, and surprisingly easy. For my Simply Romantic Spring Tea Party, guests are greeted with a golden, floral tea cocktail, tempted by herbed appetizers that capture the essence of spring, and treated to a delicate nod to tea party tradition with an Earl Grey Posset. This garden gathering takes the classic tea party and transforms it into something fresh, beautiful, and entirely its own.

As the flowers begin blooming in my garden each spring, I love to let their natural beauty set the stage for a romantic tea party. But this is not your mother’s tea party — no stuffy cucumber sandwiches or teacups brimming with English Breakfast in sight. Instead, the flavors of tea and the abundance of fresh spring herbs inspire me to create something elegant, simple, and quietly unexpected.
On a warm afternoon, when the roses begin opening one by one, I invite guests into the garden with a floral cocktail in hand. My Chamomile Bee’s Knees nods to the idea of tea with a delicate chamomile simple syrup that softens the gin and bright lemon of this classic drink, transforming it into something charming and beautiful.
Small plates feel just right for mingling beneath the sun. Herbed goat cheese crostini, creamy and bright with spring flavor, are topped with glossy marinated cherry tomatoes. A silky white bean dip becomes instantly eye-catching with green ribbons of pesto swirled throughout. It’s simple, but striking.
For dessert, I’m serving something softly English in spirit: a posset. This version leans into the tea party mood with fragrant Earl Grey, resulting in a dessert that is delicate, creamy, and perfectly suited to the garden setting.
In Spring, a tea party outdoors feels both welcoming and effortless — an invitation to enjoy nature and one another. Keeping it just a little unexpected, and a little elegant, makes it all the more memorable.

Chamomile Bee’s Knees

When guests arrive for this event, handing them a shimmering gold Chamomile Bee’s Knees will immediately set a tone. It tells guests that this is not your grandma’s tea party. Rather, a tea-inspired update on a classic fits the elegant charm of the party perfectly. For this cocktail, a classic gin and lemon Bee’s Knees becomes all the more unexpected with a bit of chamomile simple syrup. I love to serve these in fancy coupe or martini glasses for sophisticated appeal.

White Bean Dip with Pesto Ribbon

A white bean dip is another classic shareable for a cocktail party. Bright green pesto swirled into the dip makes it vibrant and unique for a garden setting. I take a shortcut and use store bought pesto for this to keep things hassle free. But the white bean dip itself is kept simple in its flavor profile, so feel free to mix up the flavors with different pesto variations.

Herbed Goat Cheese Crostini with Marinated Cherry Tomatoes

Crostini are always a favorite at a cocktail party for their easy ability to grab and sample while guests mingle. This Herbed Goat Cheese Crostini plays with the flavors of the garden by layering crisp pieces of toasted baguette with whipped goat cheese that’s studded with chives and parsley. The cherry tomatoes on top give it that glossy appeal and a pop of freshness. So simple, but a perfect snack in the garden.

Earl Grey Posset

An Earl Grey Posset is my take on the classic British pudding, infused with the flavors of tea for a wink to the classic tea party flavors for dessert. This is a lovely treat to serve that’s particularly easy on the host. The entire dessert can be made in advance and then left to set in the refrigerator. All that’s left to do is garnish and serve. This is the kind of dessert that guests remember for its simplicity, elegance, and unique flavor palate.

How I Host this Tea Party
My favorite part about hosting this Simply Romantic Spring Tea Party is how much of it can be prepared in advance. This is the kind of hosting experience where 90% of the menu can be prepared before party time, making the entire event very low stress. Here are some tips for pulling off this party with no fuss.
- The posset is best served chilled and can be made the night before. All that’s left to do is garnish with raspberries or shortbread biscuits when it’s dessert time.
- The chamomile simple syrup for the Bee’s Knees can definitely be made in advance. You can batch this cocktail and keep it chilled in the fridge, if desired.
- For the white bean dip, make the dip in advance and bring to room temperature at party time. Swirl in the pesto right before serving. Store bought pesto is perfectly fine for a time saving technique.
- The crostini can be toasted in advance and the goat cheese spread can also be prepared before the party. The tomatoes should marinate just before party time so that they don’t overly break down.
- I like to greet guests with a cocktail at this event and then have the apps ready to go. The posset is best enjoyed when cold, so I do like to bring those out a bit further into the event.

Simple Garden Tea Party Decor
Let nature provide the beauty and backdrop for this tea party. Host the event out in the garden. The beautiful flowers and colors of Spring will make for a lovely backdrop. Then add simple and elegant table decorations to keep things beautiful.
- White linens are beautiful for this party. I love a linen table runner and linen napkins here as they are sophisticated and won’t draw attention away from the glory of the garden.
- I used beautiful tulip glasses for the posset that are perfect for Spring. You could also serve it in little tea cups or in coupe glasses for a sophisticated look.
- For the cocktail, a martini glass or coupe glass is glamorous and elegant.
- A long serving platter gives the crostini a modern look.
- Decorate the table simply with one kind of flower or cut greens in a glass.
- A fun way to share flowers at the event is for each guest to bring a few cut flowers from their own homes. Then, at the end of the event. divide up the stems so that each guest leaves with a fresh and varied bouquet.
