The intimate table is one of the great love languages. Celebrating a loved one, inviting friends over for cocktails, cooking brunch for a special relative–these are acts of love. My romantic hosting philosophy centers that idea and finds ways to make those events extra special through attention to detail.
I have always loved classic notions of romance and am an avid reader and watcher of romance books and movies. So much of the classic and romantic charm of the 1950s and 1960s came from treating hosting as an act of elegance and style. That is the feeling and essence I’m looking to capture at the modern day dinner table.
That era understood something about hosting that isn’t as common today. Somewhere along the line the idea of romance became synonymous with extravagance. At the Mid Century Modern Romantic, we’re looking at romantic hosting through a different lens. Hosting here is like cashmere–beautiful, timeless, effortlessly elegant. I’m finding ways to tap into those classic notions of romance and highlight what makes them beautiful. I also love adapting the classics for a more modern sensibility.

I design menus with the cook in mind. Part of being an elegant host is enjoying hosting. I find ways to get you impressing your guests without spending the whole day in the kitchen. For many of my menus, I’m updating traditional standards of romance, flipping them on their head, and coming up with something entirely new and fresh.
