Date night at home doesn’t have to be stressful to be beautiful. Skip the reservations and try my Elegant Date Night Dinner at Home Menu which features a one pan chicken with bacon in a white wine sauce, spicy roasted broccolini, and a crazy moist raspberry lemon olive oil cake for dessert!

Date night doesn’t always need a reservation — or even a reason. When you’re trying to squeeze one into the middle of a busy week, the idea of cooking dinner can feel like too much. But making a reservation at a swanky restaurant or waiting in line can feel like a hassle too. That’s why I designed this Elegant Date Night at Home menu with ease, elegance, and deceptively impressive food in mind.
I know what it’s like to be scheduling a date night while everyone is running in different directions. The ease of staying home can actually make the evening feel more relaxed and more intimate, without sacrificing anything in terms of flavor or thoughtful, unexpected touches.
The key to this menu is simplicity. I’m serving a classic French-style chicken cooked with bacon, shallots, and white wine. This is a dish with very little prep that comes together in one pan in about thirty minutes. The side is completely hands-off: roasted broccolini tossed with chili crisp straight from the oven and finished with salty feta for a restaurant-style touch. And don’t think I would forget dessert! I’m serving a sweet-tart raspberry lemon olive oil cake that actually improves as it sits, which means it’s meant to be made ahead. This cake is incredibly moist from the olive oil.
This is a date night designed to feel relaxed and sophisticated, allowing you — the cook — to enjoy it as much as the person you’re cooking for. Pour an extra cocktail, kick back at the table, and enjoy the luxury of not having to rush anywhere once dinner is over.

The Menu at a Glance
For my Elegant Date Night Dinner at home, I’m serving:
- Chicken with Bacon, Shallots, and White Wine Sauce
- Roasted Broccolini with Chili Crisp and Feta
- Lemon Raspberry Olive Oil Cake with Lemon Glaze
This menu is perfect for date night dinner in its ease and elegance. It’s a true stunner to serve and won’t stress you out in the kitchen. Win win!
Chicken with Bacon, Shallots, and White Wine

The main attraction is this chicken dish, which feels really restaurant-worthy when you serve it but is slyly one of the easiest dinners to make. Chicken breasts are seared in bacon fat, then gently simmered with shallots, garlic, and white wine until the sauce reduces and becomes silky and deeply flavorful. The bacon adds richness, the wine keeps everything light, and the whole dish comes together in a single pan in about thirty minutes. It’s comforting without being heavy, exactly what you want for a relaxed, elegant night at home. And with only one pan, the clean up is a dream!

Roasted Broccolini with Chili Crisp and Feta

For the side, I wanted something bold but totally hands off. Roasting was definitely the way to go to keep this broccolini extra delicious but not require too much attention from me. Broccolini is roasted until just tender with crisped edges, then tossed with chili crisp while it’s still hot so every bite gets a little heat and savoriness. A sprinkle of salty feta and a squeeze of lemon right before serving gives it that final, impressive touch. It’s completely hands-off, endlessly adaptable, and the perfect contrast to the richness of the chicken. Plus, it might put a little spice in date night!

Raspberry Lemon Olive Oil Cake with Lemon Glaze

Dessert is where this menu really embraces ease. This raspberry lemon olive oil cake is tender, lightly sweet, and bright with citrus, finished with a simple lemon glaze that soaks beautifully into the crumb. Olive oil keeps the cake incredibly moist and actually improves its flavor over time, making it ideal for baking ahead. It’s welcoming, elegant, and feels special without requiring last-minute attention, which is a worthy goal on date night.

Hosting and Timing Notes
To keep this Elegant Date Night Dinner easy, here are a few suggestions:
- Make the cake entirely in advance, when you have time. You can make this a day or two in advance and store in an airtight container. Drizzle the glaze before serving, for an extra presentation flair.
- The chicken and broccolini can also be made in advance. For the chicken, gently reheat it on the stove top and add a bit of white wine or chicken stock to loosen the sauce if necessary.
- If cooking the broccolini in advance, I would probably just roast it and then stop. When it’s dinner time, reheat it and toss with the chili crisp. Then add the feta when serving.
- I personally like to cook the cake in advance but then cook the chicken and broccolini right before serving. Start with the broccolini and get it in the oven. While it’s roasting, cook the chicken on the stovetop. The entire meal should come together in about 30 minutes or less.

What to Drink
For dinner, I’d serve the same white wine that goes into the chicken. Choose a wine you’d enjoy drinking on its own to make the chicken. It pairs best with a crisp, dry white that has enough body to stand up to the richness of the bacon without overwhelming the sauce. A French-style Chardonnay (unoaked or lightly oaked), Sancerre, or dry Pinot Grigio all work beautifully.
If you’d like to try a cocktail for dinner, my Hazelnut Thyme Champagne Cocktails are perfect if you’re celebrating. Otherwise, I love the Swoonworthy Martini for this dinner as its color is so romantic. Or the Blood Orange Gin and Tonic is a new favorite that would be easy and delicious here.

What You’ll Need in the Kitchen
This Elegant Date Night Dinner is designed around simplicity, and the kitchen tools you’ll need are simple as well. For the chicken, you’ll need a large, non stick pan with a lid. The broccolini roasts on a large rimmed baking sheet. And the cake bakes in a 9″ cake pan or a springform pan. I love to serve a simple cake like this on a cake stand with dome for extra drama!
