About me
Welcome to the Mid Century Modern Romantic–where every recipe is a love letter
Seasonal recipes and romantic dinner menus for entertaining at home
Hi, I’m Abby — the Mid Century Modern Romantic.
I’ve had a lifelong love affair with romance in all its forms: books, movies, television, and the everyday rituals that make life feel a little more cinematic.
My passion for cooking and entertaining sits at the heart of everything I do, which is why I created The Mid Century Modern Romantic — a space for elegant, effortless recipes, thoughtfully curated menus, and ideas for romantic entertaining at home, alongside recommendations for romance books and movies to swoon over.
This is a place for lovers of rom-coms, contemporary romance, and anyone who believes romance belongs in the everyday — not just on special occasions.
Cooking, romance, and entertaining at home
I’m a lifelong home cook who has always believed there’s a natural intersection between food and romance. After all, Lady and the Tramp didn’t fall in love over pickleball! It was spaghetti and meatballs that set the mood.
Dreaming up ways to make a date night in, a cozy dinner for two, or a small dinner party feel special is my driving passion. Here you’ll find recipes and menus designed to feel elevated but approachable — the kind that let you relax, pour a cocktail, and actually enjoy the evening.
Romance with a fresh spin
Alongside food, I share my love of romance stories — especially those with smart writing, thoughtful characters, and a modern sensibility. Some longtime favorites include Nora Ephron, When Harry Met Sally, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Emily Henry, Dolly Alderton, Christina Lauren, Jojo Moyes, Sophie Cousens, Josie Silver, and honestly… anything with Sandra Bullock.
I’m always excited about the next wave of romance in books and movies — stories that feel classic and swoony, but still grounded and relevant.
A little more about me
Before launching The Mid Century Modern Romantic, I spent 15 years working in television as a development executive, and more recently have independently produced romance films for Hallmark. Creating this space feels like a natural extension of my work in film and television and my love of storytelling.
I’m deeply inspired by mid century modern style. I was married in a classic mid century modern home in Palm Springs, and now live in a Charles DuBois–designed home in Los Angeles, originally commissioned by Bob Hope. That aesthetic — classic, elegant, and chic — strongly influences the kinds of menus, recipes, and stories I gravitate toward.
I’m also a wife and a mom of two boys, and I’ve always found romance stories (and beautiful meals) to be a source of comfort, joy, and good vibes through every season of life.
I’m so glad you’re here! I can’t wait to share romantic menus, cozy gatherings, and a little everyday magic with you.
